Lucas County: Ohio Works First (OWF) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment & Training (SNAPET)
Individual receiving cash and/or food assistance may be eligible for services that will help with building skills for preparing, searching and maintaining employment. Services include but are not limited to:
- Work Experience Program (WEP) - WEP is gaining work experience in a public, private-non-profit or private-for-profit organization without pay. WEP ensures participants become familiar with workplace expectations while they exhibit work behaviors and attitudes necessary to compete successfully in the labor market.
- Job Searching/Readiness Activities - Participants are encouraged to utilize Ohio Means Jobs-Lucas County for assistance finding employment.
- Education and Training - Participants are encouraged to seek programs that fit their preference. Participants can also contact Ohio Means Jobs by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page for details.
OWF-Ohio Works First (cash assistance) is temporary assistance available to families. Families receive assistance by spending a minimum of 20 to 35 hours per week (depending on circumstances) in an assignment that will help them prepare and gain self-sufficiency.
SNAPET-Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment & Training (food assistance) is assistance available to able bodied adults without dependents. Participants receive assistance by spending a minimum of 20 hours per week in an assignment that will help them prepare and gain self-sufficiency.
