Lost Dog Awareness Day and Microchip Clinic

On April 23rd, 2016, Lucas County Canine Care & Control will be joining organizations across the Country to celebrate National Lost Dog Awareness Day. Each year over 2500 dogs are brought into the Canine Care Center as strays and, for many, an owner is never found. To help local pet owners we will be giving tips on preventing dogs from becoming lost, and what to do if you have lost or found a dog.

Proper identification including a dog license, ID tag, and microchip are paramount to reuniting a lost dog with their family. Dog owners can bring their dog into the Canine Care Center from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 23, 2016, to have their dog microchipped for a fee of $20. The microchip will be registered at no additional charge. We encourage dog owners to make sure their dogs are licensed, and even if they missed the January 31st deadline, it’s not too late to purchase one. If a dog owner stops in between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm and has a dog licensed in Lucas County (even if it was purchased that day) they will receive a free personalized engraved ID tag for their dog’s collar.

If your dog is already microchipped and has an engraved ID tag, stop on in to meet our many dogs available for adoption. We always have a variety of great dogs looking for homes to call their very own. Not only will the $125 adoption fee include the spay/neuter surgery, initial vaccines, deworming, heartworm test, microchip with registration and a 2016 dog license, it will also include a free personalized ID tag.

Please visit our website at lucascountydogs.com and the Lucas County Canine Care & Control FaceBook page to learn more about dogs who are currently available for adoption. Not able to adopt right now? Consider becoming a volunteer if you are over 18 years old, or consider donating items such as blankets, towels and dog supplies. Monetary donations can be made to Cutie’s Fund to help dogs with special medical needs.
