The planning personnel’s primary responsibility is to review engineering plans for various proposed residential, commercial and industrial developments in the unincorporated areas of Lucas County. The purpose of this review is to ensure that new developments meet all applicable County Design Standards and Specifications and to ensure the public's safety and welfare. Also, the planning personnel work closely with the Lucas County Sanitary Engineer to coordinate the timing of future projects. The purpose of this effort is to avoid damaging or relocating infrastructure constructed from our separate projects. We strive to minimize disruptions to the general public and combine our efforts with joint project construction where feasible.

Another task of the planning personnel is to assist in updating the design standards for the County Engineer. This consists of updating the design and construction specifications, standard drawings, and standard notes on a regular basis.
