Unclaimed Funds

The Lucas County Auditor maintains the Lucas County unclaimed funds listing, which is comprised of payments that were not redeemed by the payee at the time of original issuance. These funds can be formally claimed via the County’s unclaimed funds process, outlined below. If you require assistance, our normal office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If there is no answer, please leave a message, and someone will get back with you.

Making a Claim for Unclaimed Funds

If you believe that you are entitled to unclaimed funds, you may make your claim by submitting an unclaimed funds claim form and returning it to us at:

Note: Some monies may require a court order, which should be submitted with your claim form.

Unclaimed Funds Form Requirements

Notarization
Your form cannot be processed without a notarized signature.  Also, if multiple unredeemed payments exist, a form and notarization needs to be completed for each unredeemed payment.

Proof of Claim
All claims must have satisfactory proper proof of claim, to include (but not necessarily limited to):

  • The original check(s), if available.
  • For individuals, a photocopy of the owner's Social Security card and driver's license or State ID is required of ALL claims.
  • If the owner of the funds is a corporation and treated as such for federal income  tax purposes, submit a copy of the front of the tax return (or a document indicating the Federal Identification Number) and documentation indicating that the individual signing the form is an authorized agent of the corporation (legal documents, company letterhead, and/or a business card).

An unclaimed form request will normally process within 15 days.  However, it could take longer if a request was incomplete, or if additional information is requested to verify the claim.

Note:  If you are a professional finder, you must present a valid contract with the claim before the payment is issued.  If requested, the check can be sent to you, in the name of the payee.
