Cardiovascular Health
Mission and Focus
The mission of the Cardiovascular Health Grant is to decrease heart disease by assisting the target population to choose and practice life long, heart healthy habits. The focus settings of the grant are schools,, community, and with an emphasis on nutrition, tobacco, cholesterol, physical activity, hypertension, and diabetes.
Worksite Setting
The grant implements several interventions including a work site conference, resource sessions, professional development and policy implementation.
Community Setting
The grant enhances and sustains faith-based health committees, establishes community gardens, increases availability of nutrition and cooking workshops for people with diabetes, and increases access to healthy foods within target communities.
Healthcare Setting
This grant offers access to health professional trainings that comply with state recommended glucose monitoring and childhood obesity prevention initiatives, increase utilization of the "Ounce of Prevention" training and materials, and provides up-to date CVH educational materials to health care professionals.
School Setting
It grant offers school wellness workshops addressing nutrition and physical activity, and promotes the application of the Buckeye Best award.
