Milkweed for Monarchs!
Milkweed is essential to the survival of Monarch Butterflies in Ohio and Ohio is a priority area for Monarchs. Please join us in our effort to replenish this essential plant in Ohio by collecting milkweed pods in your area. The Lucas SWCD is an official collection station for the Ohio Pol
linator Habitat Initiative (OPHI). To help foster the creation of habitat for the monarch butterfly, OPHI in cooperation with Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Districts is organizing a Statewide Milkweed Pod Collection for 2016 starting September 1st and ending October 30th. Please see the Milkweed Collection Brochure for more information, or contact our office at: 419-893-1966.

Great Lakes Restoration Initiative – Nutrient Reduction Program 2nd Round (GLRI-NRP) State Producer Agreement:
The second round of GLRI-NRP funding is now under way. The GLRI-NRP is a voluntary program that reimburses farmers to plant cover crops, install drainage management devices such as controlled drainage structures, soil testing, precision soil sampling with fertilizer placement and over-wintering cover crop system and manure storage facilities. In addition to reducing runoff of nutrients and pesticides the practices will allow farmers to manage the water from their fields, ultimately enhancing production. Cropland enrolled must be approved by local SWCD technical staff and ODNR Division of Soil and Water Resources area engineers.
Please refer to the current GLRI-NRP 2 Map for eligibility. For more information or assistance with a GLRI-NRP 2 Agreement please contact Lucas SWCD Agricultural Conservationist Dj Mears at: 419-344-2371
